Having had some snow fall over the past couple of days the birds are flocking to the seed we put out. One left  more than a footprint.

Hélène picking up signals from the two recently released Black Vultures as, with the icy cold, there is very little lift for these big birds and could get into trouble by getting too deep in the gorges and be unable to regain height. But they were both well high up from the direction of the signals and we could go home to the warm. It was -18C° last night--chilly!

Dark Eyed Junco

I only recently put out bird feeders which the birds have been ignoring. So I finally just threw some bird seed on the ground and a very friendly group of Dark Eyed Juncos are enjoying the ground feeding.

After a raid by the sparrow clique, the friendly little coal tit came and stayed!! So that one is working, but the unglazed version has too small holes to let enough grain out.

This window is about three feet behind my desk chair in my office, and as I was working I kept getting the feeling I was being watched. He sat there for several minutes, letting me photograph him.

These are rough prototypes to see how the birds get on with them. Next time definitely no glaze except, perhaps, the tray for easier cleaning. With a few wires it should be simple to get it to hang. Next post with a bird in there (perhaps).

After being cured of their injuries, suitably measured, tagged and noted, all three, including this Griffon Vulture, were yesterday released back into the wild. I couldn't be there, I'm afraid, as was in the middle of a glaze firing. Results, ceramic bird-feeders, should be out tomorrow...

I think the fellow to the right is an Anna's hummingbird. I will try to get more pictures tomorrow.
